Netflix presentó un avance teaser y visual para Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, el nuevo anime de Ghost in the Shell que será hecho en CGI. El teaser revela que el anime será estrenado durante la primavera de 2020.
El anime se había anunciado en abril de 2017 por Kodansha y Production I.G . Kenji Kamiyama y Shinji Aramaki dirigen el proyecto en Production I.G y Sola Digital Arts. El presidente Production I.G EE. UU., Maki Terashima-Furuta, declaró previamente durante una entrevista que el anime tendría dos temporadas de 12 episodios cada una, con Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) dirigiendo una de las temporadas, y Aramaki (Appleseed) dirigiendo la otra. El ilustrador ruso Ilya Kushinov (The Wonderland) es el diseñador de personajes.
Y es que Production I.G tiene bastante experiencia con Ghost in the Shell. El estudio había producido las películas Ghost in the Shell y Ghost in the Shell 2 de Mamoru Oshii en 1995 y 2004, respectivamente, así como el anime de televisión Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2002 y su secuela de TV, el OVA y la película. En 2013, Production I.G adaptó el material a la precuela OVA de Ghost in the Shell Arise, que luego se mezcló en una serie de televisión. Más recientemente, el estudio debutó Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie en 2015 y el video para teléfonos inteligentes Ghost in the Shell VR Diver en 2017.
